To the peak of Kilimanjaro and back, SR Timber duo show they’ve got the heart for charity

An intrepid pair of adventurers from SR Timber made it to the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro after a gruelling seven-day trek to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.

In honour of the specialist timber construction product manufacturer’s 10th anniversary, Richard Stone and Jason Lumley embarked on the expedition in August 2016. After seven days of gruelling trekking, the pair successfully summited Uhuru Peak, which is situated 5,895 metres above sea level.

The money raised from the challenge will be donated to The British Heart Foundation, the UK’s largest charity fighting heart and circulatory disease.

Stone and Lumley – both business development managers with SR Timber – set themselves a target of £5,000, with everyone at SR Timber throwing themselves into the fundraising efforts.

“It was a tough challenge - probably the hardest physical challenge of my life,” said Stone. “However, when you take those final steps to the very top of the mountain it makes it all worth it – a view and feeling I’ll never forget; a dream come true for me as a keen trekker. A huge, mountainous thank you to everyone who has donated; you kept us going, but more importantly, the funds raised will change the lives of many.”

Lumley added: “It was the fear of letting everyone down that spurred me on, there was no way I was going to fail myself, Rich, SR Timber and everyone who has so kindly donated to The British Heart Foundation.”
