American Softwoods is the umbrella name for the two major U.S. softwood trade associations, namely Southern Pine Council and the Softwood Export Council. These associations represent over 80 per cent of the softwood sawn timber industries in the United States. These two organisations, although competitors in the United States, have agreed to work together to promote and market American softwood timber and manufactured products in Europe. The main purpose of this office is to provide information and to find new opportunities for American softwoods in Europe. Other activities include being involved in the formulation and development of technical standards across Europe to ensure that American softwoods comply with, and also that they are not omitted from, such standards. This involvement in standards is helping in the promotion of timber and timber products throughout Europe. The main method used for promoting and marketing American softwoods is by making contact and visiting members of the various sectors of the timber industry in each country, and by participation at the most important trade shows in each country.Contact: Barbara Rosser
