The Centre for Timber Engineering (CTE) is a focus for excellence in providing education, research and consultancy in the various constructional uses of timber.

The Centre was established in 2002 with the help of funding from Scottish Enterprise, and sponsors from the timber sector. It was officially opened in January 2003. Since then it has secured substantial additional funding from other sources including SHEFC, the European Social Fund and the Northern Periphery Programme. The CTE is based in the School of the Built Environment at Napier University in Edinburgh.
